The game of baccarat is a card game, with up to 8 deck cards. The player is given two to three cards, which must equal up to the number nine. Baccarat is other wise known as Punto Banco, and is usually played in a separate casino area, where there is a red velvet rope divider.
A perfect hand is one that equals nine within the first two cards; eight is the second best hand within two cards. Both numbers achieved within two cards alone are called "natural" hands. Of course a natural nine will always beat a natural eight, in any case. If other players or the banker has a natural eight or nine, the other players are not to take a third card, to continue. In the case of a tie, all bets are called off.
Card Values:
Aces=1
Face Cards or (Jack, Queen and King) = 10
2-10= Are their natural values.
* If a hand total is in double digits, then the first digit is disregarded in play. Ex: A hand equaling 18 would count as 8 instead.
Players
In some casinos there may be up to three dealers, and up to 12-14 players in a game. In online Baccarat the cards are dealt automatically by a virtual dealer. Other versions require the player with the most money won to be the banker. If which case, if the job is accepted, the shoe, or the deck of cards box is passed to the dealer and remains with him throughout the game, until another winner found. In that case the shoe is passed on to the new winner. The banker, (Banco) then starts by dealing two cards each; face down, and under the shoe. If the game is played with three players, it is the banker against and two other players. The deal is made starting with the two players, right to left, and then to last to himself. Other players at the table may bet on either hand (cheval) or both to beat the banker's hand, such as in blackjack. If a player declares "banco", it means they are betting the total value of the bank's funds and all other bets are taken out of account.
If a player's two cards are less than eight or nine, he may stand saying "non" or choose for a third card face up by saying, "carte". Players must stand on six or seven, and must draw on four or less. Casinos usually take their percentage from the fees, bankers take 5%.
